...a bit of history
Yukata (浴衣) is a traditional Japanese cotton summer garment. It is worn above all, but not only, during fireworks, at bon-odori parties and other summer events. Yukata is not considered a formal kimono, therefore not suitable for important occasions and events.
Then there is another type of yukata, which has the use of a dressing gown, usually worn after swimming in ryokans, and in Japanese onsen, it also finds a very practical and light home use.
Yukata literally means bathing suit.
The origins date back to the Heian period (794-1185), when the nobles wore it after the ablutions. During the Edo period (1600-1868), however, it became part of traditional clothing.
